Welcome to Barebone. Yes, another food blog to add to the myriad of other food blogs. Are blogs even still a thing? In the wise words of Abe Simpson, “I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary.”
There were a couple of reasons why I wanted to start a blog. Firstly, I love food and drink. Actually, love is an understatement. I go to sleep thinking of food and wake up thinking of food. I have 150 odd cookbooks (not including the couple of hundred editions of Australian Gourmet Traveller stored at my mother’s house). I share this passion with family and friends, but I think they are a bit sick of hearing me go on about how I have found a place that sells Scialatielli pasta, the best way to make Baba Ghanoush or that Rick Stein has a new television series filmed somewhere exotic. So, I thought I would share this with total strangers who also have the same passion as I do.
Secondly, we live in a completely different world now to what we have been accustomed to. A time where dining out or going for drinks on a whim was turned on its head. So, you will see some historical reviews of restaurants and other businesses, both local and overseas. The hospitality and travel industries have been hit hard by Covid, so if me writing about previous eating escapades can help in any way to get people to visit their local eating establishment, that will make me happy.
I also have many other passions that I may write about. So do not be surprised to see the occasional post on travel, fashion, beauty or the arts. Also, please check out the socials. They are a work in progress, but it would be great for some introverted interaction.
You can send me a message or ask me a general question using this form.
I will do my best to get back to you soon!
